The infinite cosmos!
Its champions from every distant corner of the known universe and beyond!
Protectors of all civilizations of all planets of all systems!
Defenders from threats you didn't even know of! Threats to the universe itself!
Not just "Avengers in space" are these heroes, no.
They are heroes unlike any other!
From left to right:
Ronan the Accuser - Once a powerful enemy to many, Ronan was exiled by his own people, only to prove his honor and help save the very people who cast him out from a threat beyond space!
Kl'rt the Super Skrull - The first of the shape shifting race known as the Skrull to be augmented with super powers (the powers of the Fantastic Four to be precise). A pariah among his people for his many losses against Earth's heroes, he proved he would give everything he had for them against a force the galaxy thought invincible.
Captain Marvel/ Mar-Vell - The first of many in this universe to hold the moniker "Captain Marvel", this sworn protector of Earth was actually a former Kree soldier who came to care for the people of Earth. Using his Nega Bands, he controlled great cosmic power and was the focal figure in many of Earth's first experiences with interstellar conflicts.
Groot - King of Planet X, and the last of his kind, Groot is a being composed of pliable plant matter. Often haugty, as royalty is like to be, he has shown to be truly loyal to those he considers his friends. Whatever could be said about him, one this is for certain: He is Groot.
Rocket Raccoon - A master of demolitions, mechanics, firearms, combat tactics, and aggressive negotiations. He's also a talking raccoon. Sort of.
The Legendary Star Lord/ Peter Quill - An Earthling with more intergalactic experience than most heralds of Galactus, Peter Quill has seen it all, and done more than he'd like to talk about. Armed with two fists full of guns and protected by one sexy helmet, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy will save the universe before lunch and be back in time for coffee.
Cosmo - This powerful psychic is a Soviet cosmonaut who became lost in space and found himself to be the head of security of Knowhere, a habitable decapitated head of an immense Celestial and home to many a space-farer. He's also a dog. A good dog.
Nova/ Richard Rider - Once a teen hero among the New Warriors, Richie got his powers when he was called to join the universal peacekeeping force, the Nova Corps. Tragedy struck when the Corps was destroyed by a force from another universe, leaving Richard Rider as the last remaining Nova Centurion. Forced to contain the entirety of the Nova Force within him, he became the best hope the universe had to stop the threat from conquering... everything.
Gamora - Known as the most deadly woman in the galaxy, Gamora is trained in the use of every type of weapon, is a formidable tactician, and is a master of espionage. She is the wielder of the Godslayer, a sword that can kill even the most powerful of beings in the universe.
Drax the Destroyer - Once Arthur Douglas of Earth, killed killed by Thanos, and resurrected by the Titans to be Drax, the man destined to kill Thanos. Drax is a master of destroying. He wants to destroy Thanos. Little else needs to be said about him.
Moondragon/ Heather Douglas - The most powerful human born psychic from Earth, Moondragon is the daughter of Drax the Destroyer and also a former Avenger. She almost never leaves the side of Phyla-Vell and even once became her space dragon steed.
Quasar/ Phyla-Vell - Daughter of Mar-Vell, wielder of the tremendously powerful Quantum Bands and the Quantum Sword, Phyla is the self-appointed successor to the original Quasar, Wendell Vaughn, the sworn protector of the galaxy.
Most of these designs are based on the Annihilation storyline, with few artistic liberties. Arguably the best material Marvel published in the last decade and it really puts crap like Civil War in perspective.
I was going to do something more similar to my recent comic book lineups, but I wanted to break from the formula constraints I placed for myself with those projects. That and I just kept adding characters. I really could have kept going. Cosmic Marvel is a bigass concept. There's like... 10 other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy I could have used.
Did this for my buddy, Kyle, for his birthday.
