Description

For Jacob.
The Dragoons of Final Fantasy.

Left to right:

Freya Crescent - FFIX
The anthropomorphic rat lady from Bermecia. A true Dragon Knight and one of my favorite characters in the series.

Kimahri Ronso - FFX
Sworn protector of the summoner, Yuna, he is also a talented Blue Mage, using the skills of his enemies against them.

Mog - FFVI (III)
While Final Fantasy 6 (FF3 in America) did not have a job system or even heavily implied jobs, Mog was one of the characters who was allowed to equip a spear. With the Dragoon Boots relic equipped, he could easily become a traditional Dragoon. He was also the first playable Moogle character in the series, and has become a fan favorite.

Ward Zubac - FFVIII
One of Laguna's companions, Ward uses a giant harpoon as a weapon. His Limit Break is called Massive Anchor, and it greatly resembles the Jump attack associated with Dragoons.

Cid Highwind - FFVII
"The Captain" uses more than one Jump attack amongst his Limit Breaks and also equips spears and lances as his primary weapons.

Edgar Roni Figaro - FFVI (III)
The only other character in Final Fantasy 6 that can equip spears, it is implied that Edgar is this game's token Dragoon. He is also the King of the moving city of Figaro and has a reputation as a ladies man.

Kain Highwind - FFIV (II)
Dressed to resemble the mighty Bahamut, Kain is considered the basis for the traditional Dragoon.

Ricard Highwind - FFII
The first Dragoon of the series, Ricard actually never used Jump attack. He was the last of his kind, a group of powerful soldiers who rode into battle on the backs of Wyverns. He had a preference for spears.

I tried a more "oily" style this time around, opting not to cell shade. I did this mostly because I wanted it to resemble something closer to the designs by Yoshitaka Amano, the original concept artist for the series, though I know that I took many artistic liberties with their designs.

You know when you stop to think about it in FFII the Dragoon, Ricard knew of a boy in Castle Deist along with his mother. This boy's name was Kain and he vowed to become a Dragoon in his, and all the Dragoons' honor, Ricard being the last had he not they would have likely died out. Then in FFIV we have Kain, another Dragoon whose goal it was to honor his father, which was why he became a Dragoon. Kain never knew his father however, knowing he was only a honorable and powerful Dragoon. Now Ricard says that he knew of his father and described the man as such... but he may have just been speaking about himself as if he was another man because he didn't want to tell Kain, for whatever reason. Just interesting how all the games have these little ties ins that, in one way or another, binds the whole series together.
