1.) Calder Street

Jay walked down Calder Street to the comic shop every day. Every day he had money, anyway. Considering this was a Saturday and his father had just given him his allowance, Jay had a pocket full of cash that was beginning it's long journey into the bank account of Wonder Comics as it ordinarily does. Though, something wasn't as ordinary as it should be. Calder Street usually doesn't smell this bad. Jay observed that the smell was coming from the ally between Calder Street Comics and Johansen's Antiques. The boy decided he had plenty of time to kill, and being the curious thirteen year old he was, he left the afternoon sun and cautiously walked into the shadows between the two buildings to investigate.

Jay was an experienced child, or at least he thought himself to be. He's seen many big things due to his parents' urge to travel, like waterfalls, skyscrapers, and elephants. He's also seen many gross things due to his natural curiosity like cow pies, fish eggs, and bees nests. Yet he's never been afraid of any of those things. What he saw in the ally between the comic shop and the antique store was neither too big or seemingly gross, but Jay was petrified when he saw the lifeless body slumped up against a couple of garbage cans in the shadows of Calder Street.

2.) Denial

Have you ever thought you loved someone, and they thought they loved you back, yet you came to realize that neither of you were really in love, but the other person hadn't realized that yet? Yeah, well, if that sounded confusing, try to wrap your head around this: I'm the one who hasn't realized that I don't really love my girlfriend.

Call me a romantic, stubborn, blind, optimistic moron, but I've always believed that if you tried hard enough then anything is possible. Now just because she, and her friends, and my friends, and my parents, and my sister, and her sisters, and the guidance counselor, and the neighborhood fortune teller all say that I should move on because it's not going to work, doesn't mean that it's true. Sure, teen romance is supposed to be fleeting and the fact that she already has a new boyfriend are all good signs that we're through, but I just know I can win her back. And y'know what? I already have a foolproof plan that's sure to work! After this, she'll surely dump that new guy and come running back to me.
Okay, so this week's assignment was to write up two paragraphs each for the beginnings of two different stories.

Uh, which one do you like better? What catches your interest?
